I am so excited to share this DIY with you. I have been planning on making this for SUCH a long time, and now that I finally have gotten to it, I totally love it. L-O-V-E. It turned out so good (for a change) that it was definitely worth the wait. I hope you like it as much as I do.
I have to say it seems like long process, but it’s just a lot of explaining rather than doing. So let’s get started!
What you need:
- 2 Baseboards
- 1 1/2 Pallets
- Regular Deck Screws (1 1/8″ long)
- Carpenter Glue
- Tuck Tape
- Jute Twine
- 16 Paint Samples
- Love You More Template
- White Paint/Paint Brush
- 2 Large Self-Leveling Hangers
- Clear Finishing Spray
-the rest are just household items (pen, pencil, hot glue gun).
Step 1: Cut your baseboard into 2 51 1/2″ and 2 22″ pieces. Make sure to cut the corners a 45 degree angle. Now glue the corners together with the carpenters glue and let it dry for at least 24 hrs.
We bought our base boards from Rona, and painted them white with a grey stain.
Step 2: While your frame is drying, you can get the background finished. First, take your pallet and a bit apart. We used five full length pallet boards (40″). Four of them were 1×4’s and one was a 1×6. Then, we also used 5 cut pieces to fill our whole frame. They were all cut to 9 1/4″ length. And then again, 4 of them were 1×4’s and one was a 1×6 to match the look and make the pallets look continuous.
So, let’s put it like this to be more clear:
-5 full length pallet boards:
-5 pallet boards that are 9 1/4″:
Step 3: Take a full length and a 9 1/4″ pallet board and screw it together on the back side with a board. This way they stay together and it’s much easier than gluing them all together. Repeat with the other pallet boards.Note that we added two small scrap wood boards on each side on one of the holding boards. When we were screwing the pallets on, we notice that the surfaces of them was uneven, so to get a flatter surface, this would be your key!Step 4: Sand the surface of your background slightly to give it a nicer look. If you like your boards to look more rough, just skip this step.
Step 5: Now we go on to the foreground! Use your paint samples (I got mine from home hardware) to cut out some heart shapes.
I used 3 of each color below, and 7 of the one all the way to the right.
I just drew a heart on one and used that as my sample. You can also just buy a heart stamp to make your life a bit easier.
Step 6: Cut a 52 inch long jute twine. Heat your hot glue gun and glue the hearts on the jute twine at about 1/3rd down the heart.
Keep going..And this is how it looks like!Step 7: Use the tuck tape to tape the jute twine to each end on your frame.
Step 8: Use your carpenter’s glue again to glue the frame to your wood background. Let that dry for at least 24 hrs. (We only had 3 clamps, so we used some wood boards for the fourth one..and for some extra support 🙂 , no hating here).
Step 9: Print the love you more template, and use a pencil to draw over the words in the back. There’s many method’s you can use to transfer your wording on wood, but right now I am loving on this one. After covering your letters in led, turn your pages around and center them on the board. Later on I added some tape to keep the paper from moving.Step 10: Use a pen to trace the letters. No need to push hard, just as if you’re writing. I also colored in all the black to make it easier for me to see later on.Now take your white paint and go at it! The letters should be easily seen, but if not you can use the template as referral.Step 11: Last but not least, when everything dried, you can apply a clear coat of finishing spray if you like. Then attach some large self-leveling hanger on the back so you can hang it up! Enjoy your beauty!
