Happiness Box DIY

Hi everyone,

This was one of my favorite gifts to make! It was so easy and so thoughtful at the same time. This present was for my sisters 20th birthday and she totally loved it!

I wrote some happiness quotes on each paper and rolled it up. That way she can take one out whenever she feels like it.

What you need:

  • A Tin Shaped Box (I got mine from the dollar store)
  • Box Cover Paper (I got mine from the dollar store as well)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Pretty Scrapbooking Paper
  • Scissors
  • Jute Twine
  • Happiness Quotes

I took the ‘box cover’ or whatever you want to call it and wrote ‘Happiness Box’ with a white Sharpie.IMG_5108 - Copy.JPG

Then I took the hot glue gun and glued the burlap on the box.IMG_5111.JPGNow take your pretty Scrapbooking or Construction Paper and cut in in different sized papers. First of all write quotes of whatever you want on there. I used happy quotes. You can find a couple suggestions down below.IMG_5107

Examples of Quotes:

  • To be happy, we must not be too concerned with others.
  • It isn’t what you have or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy, it is what you think about
  • Create a Life you don’t need a vacation from.
  • Life only comes around once, so do whatever makes you happy & be with whoever makes you smile.
  • The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy is all that matters.
  • Today I will be happier than a bird with a french frie.
  • Happiness is a choice, you can choose to be happy. There’s going to be stress in life, but it’s your choice whether you let it affect you or not.
  • It doesn’t matter who hurt you or broke you down, what matters is who makes you smile again.
  • Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself; in your way of thinking.
  • Train yourself to find the blessing in everything.
  • Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy.
  • Happy can make you money, but money can’t make you happy.
  • Be happy for this moment, this moment is your life.
  • People don’t notice whether its winter or summer when they’re happy.
  • Just find yourself happy with the simpler things, appreciating the blessings God gave you.
  • Being happy never goes out of style.IMG_5105.JPG

Now roll them all up and use some jute twine to fasten them up. You could also use some lace instead of jute twine. Finally stick them all in the box and the happy reading can begin πŸ™‚IMG_5108.JPGIsn’t it adorable?IMG_5113What happiness quotes did you find?

How To Get Rid Of Spray Paint

Hi Guys,

All of us who love spray painting can probably relate to this ‘before’ picture – at least once! I had the pleasure of covering my hand full of spray paint just before an important meeting. Now tell me, can you go to a meeting with hand covered in white paint? No, that would be the worst nightmare.

How did I get all that spray paint on my hand? Well, that was another one of my great moments. I decided to spray paint some owls white for a project and – of course- did it outside. Who want’s all that fume in your house, right? Well, I didn’t consider the extreme humidity outside so the spray painting was a total fail! I tried to wipe it off before it would dry and that way got it all over my hands! Of course I knew you could get rid of it after it dried.. but I guess the moment took overhand.

So I needed to get rid of it, fast. Really fast. First I tried Nail Polish at first, but that BARELY worked and it did not smell great. Instead of breathing in those chemicals, I tried some vegetable oil that we had at hand. It worked wonders!!! It was probably one of the easiest things I have every cleaned!

The reason vegetable oil works so well is, because it workstheir way into your skin and that way instead of rubbing the paint into your pores – like water – it opens your pores and gives your cleaning a free way!

What you need:

  • Vegetable Oil
  • Baby Wipes

Step 1: Take your vegetable oil and place a bit on your hand. Rub it around your hands till you feel the need to take new oil. Take a wet wipe and wipe all the oil off. Put new oil on your hands and keep rubbing it on the spray paint areas.

Step 2: Keep repeating Step 1 until you get rid of all of it!

  • I preferred to use baby wipes to wipe away the oil, because it seemed impossible with water β€’
  • You can also use a cotton ball to spread your oil, but I preferred using my hand because it was so much more effective!

This is what my hand looked like in the beginning:

For all of you who need a quick & effective solution: you’re welcome!

Napkin Stand DIY

IMG_4567.JPGAs you can see I am really all about wood…wood here, wood there and wood everywhere. Almost all my decoration or DIY’s are made out of wood. I just love the feeling it gives you, it is so warm, so homey.

It was very important for me to decorate my home the way I love. I knew I was going to spent most of my time at home and I am still spending all my time at home. Also, our winters are long and VERY cold. Therefore I really wanted a comfy house where you can feel at peace.

This tissue stand pretty much cost me $2. I bought the napkin stand at our Dollar Store for $1.50 and had the rest lying around at home.

I ran into the same stand at winners, and it was selling for $15.99!! So it was definitely worth it!! It only took a couple minutes and saved me so much money as well! Just what I love, quick tutorials that cost little money. Do you love that as well? Then stay tuned for another one of my simple DIY’s πŸ™‚

What you need:

  • Tissue Stand
  • Wood Slice
  • Silicone or any other strong glue

How to do it:

First you take your Tissue Stand and cut it at the bottom where it starts to make the base.IMG_0128.JPG

Now take your wood slice and mark where you want your holes. Cut them out afterwards.IMG_4404.JPG

Now take your silicone or any other strong glue and put them in the holes and then attach the stand.IMG_4554.JPG.jpgFinally, I let mine dry overnight and as a result it stuck on there like a bomb!IMG_4558.JPG

There you are, a rustic SUPER cute Tissue Stand!IMG_4571.JPGIt is such a small addition in your home, where you don’t necessarily think about making one. But once you have, you can be so happy about it! I find the small items in your home are the most noteworthy ones.IMG_4563.JPGIMG_4571 - Copy

How does your napkin stand look like? A DIY as well? Or bought from a store? Don’t forget to comment below and let me know!

Mother’s day comes around like… every year. And we don’t get younger! By now my mom is a proud grandmother and what else could I do but make her a sign with this cute saying on it??? Nothing, I just had to.

I find that we get so caught up with our own life, that we forget to appreciate our mothers more and more. The older you get the more you realize how much your parents have done for you.

This was a simple DIY that bought happy smiles to our mother’s faces… who doesn’t like hanging up pictures of their grand kids… like really?

Mini Donair Buns

These days I seem to be craving donair every second day. So I just had to share this recipe. I love the tzaziki that I make for it and the cooked chicken. If it was up to me, that would be everything I put into it, but you gotta have some vegetables as well.

I also love baking the buns ahead of time and freezing them for whenever I need a quick meal. It works great for busy days or if company decides to come over spontaneously.

Once you have made your dough and it had time to rise, you make little (90-120g) balls and roll them out a bit and place them on baking sheets. Make sure they’re spread out, because they will rise in the oven.

Now take a knife and poke holes in the buns.

Take an egg and mix it with a splash of water and spread it on the donair buns. Now take some sesame seeds and spread those on top as well.

NOTE: I had taken an egg white or an egg yolk only with some water – it did not make a difference. I decided to always use the whole egg now since the other half just gets wasted anyways.

Bake it for 45 min or until golden brown at 375 F.

If you want bigger bread, then you can make the dough into 120g balls and roll it out more. They will be thinner and more flat.

Cut almost all the way through and insert your favorite fillings!

Smartest Way To Hang Wall Art

One of our biggest fears for our house or apartment seems to be destroying the walls with hanging up pictures. It must be one of yours too, otherwise you wouldn’t be here! πŸ™‚

I like to change our wall art quiet frequently, and it really doesn’t look nice to hammer nails in the walls for each and every time I change my mind (which is a LOT).

So I had the idea to try out push pins to use instead of nails – it works great!

I can use it for everything light, like canvases etc! I wouldn’t recommend it for heavy wooden boards – but everything else works!!

Even if you do change your mind, all you have in your wall is a little hole, which you can easily cover up with a bar of soap. Take it and rub it over the surface. Then just wipe it off and you can see nothing of it!

DIY Forever & Always Wood Sign

Hello everybody!

This DIY is super duper adorable for your bedroom or any other room you’d like! Well… I guess that makes it super adorable for anything! I REALLY like how it turned out. It gives such a cute touch to our vanity. And besides, we will be together forever & always. Another cute DIY where it only takes a few minutes and your supplies are limited. Let’s jump right into it!

What you’ll need:

  • 3 Wood Boards – finished the way you like it
  • Forever & Always Template
  • Pencil
  • Paint Brush and Brown Paint (not on picture)
  • Black Marker, optional (not on picture)
  • Finishing Spray, optional (not on picture)IMG_4574.JPG

Start off by taking your templates (Forever & Always Template) and fitting them on each wood board. My ‘forever’ and ‘always’ boards are 6 inch in length and 3 1/2 inch width. And my ‘&’ board is 3 1/2 inch x Β 3 1/2 inch. Take your pencil and trace over the words. Don’t be shy – color the words all the way in. You don’t have to press too hard tough.IMG_4575.JPGJust experiment, the harder you press the more it is going to be visible later on.IMG_4576.JPGThis was enough for me already, and I just pressed down a LITTLE harder than when I’m writing. But everybody has different hand pressures – so just find your own!IMG_4577.JPGWhat I’m saying is, you don’t have to press your hand out πŸ™‚

Now write over the letters with brown paint. I also went around the outsides of the letters with a black markers to make the boarders look neater.IMG_4581.JPGLastly spray or apply some finishing gloss to it if you desire. I used a lacquer spray from Home Hardware.IMG_4629.JPGWhat’ya think?IMG_4627.JPG

DIY Hanging Shelf

IMG_4407.JPGThis hanging shelf is probably one of my favorite DIY’s ever. I love how it adds to our living room. And I love how unique it is. Like, have you ever seen anything like this in anybody’s house? You might have – but I haven’t!

This time I have a step by step picture to show you how we did it.BeFunky Collage.jpg

What you need:

  • Shelf
  • Screw Driver
  • Thick Rope
  • Hooks (I used Clothes Hooks)

Start by drilling 4 holes in each corner with your screw driver. We used a 3/4 inch width. Drill just till you see it coming out on the other end and then turn your shelf around and drill from the other side. This prevents any wood chips and makes the holes looks cleaner.IMG_4365.JPGThen take you rope and cut it in 4 even lengths. I bought my rope from our local Home Hardware. They sell them by the foot (I bought 12 feet). Now put one of the ropes through the hole and tie a knot. IMG_4367.JPGThe knot does not need to be firm to hold – it’s very strong rope and no problem if it’s not tight all the way. Do so for all the holes.IMG_4368.JPGNow take your hooks – or clothes hooks in my case and fasten them on the wall.IMG_4369.jpgI chose a white finish so it matches the white shelf and our white lamps beside it.Β IMG_4396.JPGAll you have left to do now is knot the rope on the hooks and decorate your shelf! A trick to see if the shelf is leveled correctly is placing a cup Β of water on the shelf. If the shelf is hanging straight the water should be leveled! You welcome πŸ™‚

IMG_4405.JPGI still haven’t quite made up my mind on what to put on the shelf – what do you like better – the hearts or the flower vases?

DIY Raised Garden Planter

This idea came to me for my last rescue! I had already given up on planting any vegetables but then one Sunday afternoon I spotted a steel barrel and all my hopelessness came to end! I’m so glad I had this idea and it was super easy! All you need is a steel barrel, cutting tools (or somebody you can ask to cut it for you) and some spray paint (optional).

Here is a picture of the steel barrel that I had used. You can get it from any factory and they work great for keeping rain water as well!IMG_4546.JPG

Then, you cut it in three parts with a grinder – Β or anything else that works (how should I know, I just tell my hubby to do it). He cut it exactly where the two rounded parts are.IMG_4538.JPG

Now it was my turn. I took some spray paint (brown metallic color) and started spraying away. It was super easy and I was done in no time cause it dried so fast (maybe because it was really hot too).

Then we picked up some soil and positioned them where we wanted in our yard.IMG_4541.JPGIf you don’t have strong men helping, you can just position the barrels where you like and then fill them up with soil. Plant whatever you want in them! I planted four tomatoes, 3 rhubarb and one cucumber. It’s my first garden EVER. So let’s see how that’s going to work out. This is all I have as a garden too, gotta start small and work your way up slowly. I’ve never had luck with plants, like ever – it seemed that they would die as soon as they came in my hands. Like my hands were jinxed or something. But you’re supposed to get better the more you try, so here I am- trying and trying.IMG_4544.JPGWe took the lid from the steel barrel and fastened it on the second circle so both barrels have a base. If I ever want to move them anywhere – there’s no problem!IMG_4544 - CopyHow do you keep your garden?
